Western Isles SciTech Festival

The first Science Festival in the Outer Hebrides will be taking place between 18th and 20th March 2010 at the Bridge Centre, Bayhead in Stornoway. Follow the link above for venue location.

The Hebridean SciTech Festival will help raise the profile of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects among the community and, in particular, young people with a fun and varied programme.

Planned activities include:

  • A visit from the Institute of Physics’ Lab in a Lorry
  • A Talk from Dr Alison McClure, meteorologist who has worked in the Antarctic
  • Ceilidh and Star Walk
  • Family Fun Day

A Hebridean Young Scientist Competition has been running for students since before Christmas and the best entries will be invited to take part in the Young Scientist Exhibition during the festival.
This year, the SciTech Festival is taking place at the Bridge Centre in Stornoway but it is hoped to extend activities across the Western Isles in subsequent years. Many of the activities will be broadcast live or as recordings to schools using GLOW technology.
